It is so great to have all of you on this 7 Habits journey--and a journey it is! Covey has been very careful to clarify that his "habits" are never fully developed. It's not the 7 Habits of very neat people, very organized people, or very fit people--even though we would love to achieve these final outcomes. It's all about self-improvement in order to improve our relationships with others--both in our personal and professional lives. I hope that all of you will be able to find at least one area to explore and grow in during the coming school year. If we can all live these habits more effectively, then we will have better schools, better relationships, and better lives.
As part of our ACLD-approved PLUs for this year, you will be asked to visit this blog and post at least one response or reflection monthly. It shouldn't take long, but it will help fulfill the main purpose of the PLU--ongoing and sustained professional development. These postings and our monthly principal meetings will ensure that we are continuing the conversation and applying what we have learned in our face-to-face sessions.
Training started today. I am very excited about revisiting the 7 habits. I hope to use these habits in my personal and professional life. The freedom to choose my reaction to adverse stimulus is a new and exciting concept. Seeing the world through other's eyes is a very difficult concept. Reacting to other's,assumed to be, shortcomings could simply be not understanding their feelings or circumstances that caused these feelings.
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed the first half of the first day and look forward to the remainder. Stoney, I also appreciate your efforts to get me registered and on the GBlog.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to the study.
ReplyDeleteStoney, Thanks for setting up the 7 Habits Training. I am looking forward to expanping my way of reacting to others and making myself happier.
ReplyDeleteExample is Leadership!
ReplyDeleteToday's meeting was very good. I enjoyed the beginning of the study and look forward to day two!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed getting started with the 7 Habits Workshop. I think it is going to be very beneficial to all of us. Thanks so much to Stoney for doing all the hard work to set this up and to Blount County administrators for inviting us to participate with you. It is always great to re-connect with you. I think this cooperative spirit works to make us both better school systems.
ReplyDeleteI just finished reading the comments. Glenda said exactly what I wanted to say. I guess it's true that great minds think alike. Ha! Ha!
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see so many of you jumping in and getting your first post up! I would love for everyone to be ahead of schedule at the end of the day on Friday! Thanks for being such a great group.
ReplyDeletePlease be sure to create a username that will allow me to quickly recognize you and give you credit for your posting. If you did not do this, you may be able to change it in your profile. If not, I'll figure it out!
The training is very informative and interesting - offering many ways to think about habits that can help you improve. I especially enjoyed all the video clips that illustrate the habit and provide insight into implementing it into your life. I appreciate the opportunity to participate in this training with Blount County!
ReplyDeleteThe first day was informative and enjoyable. I am looking forward to the remainder of the 3-day training and the follow-up activities. Thanks Stoney for a job well done!
ReplyDeleteThe first day was great! Thanks for all your hard work in preparing for this training.
ReplyDeleteLove this stuff!!
ReplyDeleteI have chosen to post this comment. I did not have to post it.
ReplyDeleteI am really going to have to work on moving to that 2nd quadrant. My percentage there is way to low.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your help with the plu.
ReplyDeleteAfter Day 2, I am feeling more comfortable with Covey's 7 Habits. I have learned that each habit is an extension and one builds on another. I now understand that I need to move more items from Quadrant 3 and 4 to Quadant 2 to be more efficient.
ReplyDeleteThe 7 Habits are very interesting to me and I like the format that is being used for the workshop. I especially appreciate the hard work that everyone has done to bring this to Blount County!!
ReplyDeleteThanks
I have truly enjoyed the first couple of days of the Seven Habits workshop. I can see numerous ways this "lifestyle change" can be integrated into the many roles that we all fulfill, making us "new and improved" in all aspects of our lives. Some of it, we already do in a variety of ways but maybe are not using the same terminology; much of it is simply, "coomon sense"; but ALL of the concepts make you question yourself -- "That makes so much sense; why didn't I think of it already?"
ReplyDeleteThanks for your insights, Dr. Bradford!
ReplyDeleteStoney, Thanks for providing us this opportunity.
ReplyDeleteGood background info helping with breaking down barriers to effective communication.
ReplyDeleteThis workshop has really giving me some great ideas or strategies that I will use with my husband and staff and all "others" that I come in contact with!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited about sharing this with my teachers and students! This is a remarkable tool for giving direction and vision to what we are doing!
ReplyDeleteJust finished the 7 Habits Training. Really enjoyed the workshop. Much of what I learned will help me in both my professional and personal life. I hope we have a follow-up training session.
ReplyDeleteFinished the 7 Habits training. It was very beneficial. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThis training has given me new insight as a teacher, wife, and mother. I can't wait to begin "With the End in Mind" when planning our yearly family and school calendar! I will "choose" to follow it!
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate the opportunity to join Blount County for this 7 Habits training. We use the 7 Habits for Teens as an elective with our students at the school for the Alabama Youth Home boys. I believe this training will help me set a better example for the students in being better organized, as well as understanding the special circumstances that many of them have experienced. Stoney, your diligence in getting me registered for the STIPD is greatly appreciated.
ReplyDeleteThis workshop has made me think about how I interact with others. I will use this to "Listen first to understand, then to be understood".
ReplyDeleteI hope to move north and west on my quadrants. If only I will pursue my 21 day plan, that should begin to correct itself.
ReplyDeleteVery informative, eye-opening experience - I would "choose" to participate in future 7 Habits workshops.
ReplyDeleteAfter looking at the life expectancy calculator and the "Sharpening the Saw", I see the need to make some life changes. This workshop was very insightful and I hope to implement some new ideas and new thinking!
ReplyDeleteThis workshop was great! I enjoyed all of the activities. Great Job Stoney!
ReplyDeleteThe most beneficial workshop I have ever attended. Information beneficial in every aspect of my life, both personal and professional.
ReplyDeleteThe 7 Habits workshop was great, inspiring to use new ideas with my students and colleagues, renewing and refreshing, as well as confirming in other ways. Thanks Stoney!
ReplyDeleteI was surprised at how much I gained from this training. I have a little work to do to get to private victory, but am excited about the positives it will bring. I have to remember that it's a process. You can't achieve it all in a few days. There is much to gain.
ReplyDeleteAfter 3 days of participating in the 7 habits of highly effective people, I have discovered that I may have only one of the seven habits. I have a lot of work to do over this next year.
