Standard I

Including "collaborative efforts" as part of our professional obligations is a "new school" approach. We should no longer want to work in isolation when proper collaboration has been proven to benefit student learning. Making it part of the expected professional standard(s) helps educators to see the importance of collaboration.

  1. It is so easy to lock yourself away and get comfortable with working in isolation. True collaboration takes a genuine effort and when done with this effort the sky is the limit with how many students will respond.

  2. As we have been working on the CIP, collaboration has been the key to the successful development of the document. Without collaboration, the CIP would be basically impossible to accomplish.

  3. I think most of us would rather just do any part of our job by ourselves because it is quicker, but when we work together we often find others have looked at the task differently and can add a different perspective to the task. This often improves the outcome.

  4. Working together has become the buzz word for educators today. I feel that the idea and buzz words may be "fresh" but that good teachers have been doing this for a long time. Collaboration is a vital part of the educational process and should be seen as something not just for the local school level but system wide. If everyone works toward a common goal so much more could be done not just in education but in every aspect of life. And... isn't that the real lesson we want to model for our children.
